If you're thinking about getting a racing setup yourself, I have prepared three lists to help you choose the hardware you'll need. You can mix and match, but each tier represents a step-up in realism and price. All of the components listed will work for PC and have an xbox counterpart if that's what you own.
Budget VR Simulator Setup
This list may not have the cheapest possible options on it, but in terms of realism it's good to have at least a good seat and steering wheel. With the Logitech you can also add a shifter if you so choose.

Middle Range VR Simulator Setup
This list is comprised of quality components and some additional accessories to complete your setup. Although a shifter is not necessary, if your into rally car racing it adds a lot to the experience. The Thrustmaster shifter and pedals are much better than the Logitech equivalent and it almost feels like the real thing.
